(Gr. haploos, simple; eidos, form) having the number of chromosomes characteristic of the gametes for the organism.hapteron search for term- n. (Gr. haptein, to fasten) holdfast, specialized root-like projections that function to anchor a plant.

Antheridium - A moist chamber in which male gametes are produced in plants.
Apical dominance - A phenomenon whereby a plant's growth is concentrated on the terminal bud, allowing it to grow taller, thereby increasing its exposure to sunlight.

All four floral parts are important in the reproductive process, but only the stamens (the "male" organs) and carpels (the "female" organs) produce gametes.

Meiosis- Reduction division resulting in the production of haploid gametes; a process consisting of two specialized nuclear divisions ultimately leading to the formation of eggs or sperm.
