The growing season for hardy plants is the time between spring and autumn when plants do all their growing and we gardeners do most of our work.

Growing season. In many areas, the growing season is shorter than the time needed for a plant to produce flowers. If sown indoors, gardeners are able to get a jump start and plant flowers that are not native to the area.

The 'growing season' may be over, but that doesn't mean your containers have to be. No matter where you live, you can add a little something to your pots, urns and window boxes every month of the year to keep them seasonally beautiful.

Since the growing season is short, you need to ensure that your plants have maximum garden time so that they can mature before warm weather ends.

If you want to add to your pile, you can do so throughout the growing season and into the winter months. As you add fresh material, you will need to turn and water your pile more often.
