Half standard

This can be followed with standard trees, half standards and strong-growing bush trees, i.e. those on vigorous root stocks.

Half standards can be planted with bush roses or taller perennials to provide a link between them and ground plants. Smaller standards in pots are particularly effective with annuals planted underneath them.
