Heavenly Bamboo, (Nandina domestica), is completely unrelated to Bamboo.
It's common name comes only from it's resemblance to bamboo due to the fine lacy foliage, and the growth pattern of the plant, which is cane like.

Heavenly Bamboo
The heavenly bamboo (Nandina domestica) is from the barberry family. It is a fast-growing evergreen shrub that will attract songbirds. It gets 6 to 8 feet tall with green berries that turn red. Stems do not branch.

Nandinas are popular in the Southern US, where their fall/winter berries are the most striking. However Nandinas are tougher than their delicate foliage would suggest.

Winter is imminent and serious: meaning you get deep frosts and frost heaves where you live. These can be hard on the garlic, so mulch to stabilize the soil temperature.
