Gardening Heirloom vegetablesHerb

hemiptera An insect family made up of species generally having sucking mouthparts and four wings. Wings are thick at the base and membranous at the free end. Include true bugs, stink bugs, assassin bugs, and back swimmers.

True Bugs (Order Hemiptera)
There are many species of "true bugs" that feed on plants (such as the tarnished plant bug), but a number of them are predators of insect pests.

Potato aphids, known scientifically as Macrosiphum euphorbiae hemiptera, are brightly colored aphids that are either pink all over, green and pink or pale green with a dark stripe down the back. They have no wings and grow to be up to 3.

The Lethocerus americanus, commonly known as the giant water bug, is a member of the Hemiptera order.

Pros: Very effective against the true bugs (members of the Hemiptera order)
Cons: Highly toxic to bees. Very irritating to the mucus membranes of mammals
Precautions: Use as a last resort ...
