Impulse Sprinkler
Box or Cone Sprinkler
Box and/or Cone Sprinklers are, as you would guess, generally formed in the shape of a box or cone. The more modern versions have adjustable heads that can spray water in a number of fashions and directions.
Impulse sprinklers are a good choice for overhead watering of turf and ornamental grasses.
Impulse sprinklers advance using the inertia of a spring-activated counterweight bouncing off the water stream. The counterweight striking the stream of impulse types makes the thwack-thwack that is a familiar sound of summer for many gardeners.
