Intercropping
The practice of growing two crops on the same piece of ground, simultaneously. Where a fast-growing crop is grown between slower-maturing plants, or in succession.

INTERCROPPING or INTERPLANTING - A smart way to garen. Mixing two or more plants, tall and short, for foliage difference, or combining plants that bloom at different times of the year. It keeps the interest in the garden.

intercropping The practice of mixing plants to break up pure stands of a single crop.

Intensive intercropping, along with companion planting, will provide the maximum amount of food production, and will reduce your garden size, water and nutrient requirements, and allow you to grow the healthiest plants.

Definition: Interplanting is the practice of planting a fast-growing crop between a slower-growing one in order to make the most of your garden space.

Another example of intercropping is using the shade from tall growing vegetables, like tomatoes, corn or pole beans, to shelter lettuce during the heat of the summer.

Intercropping is another word for the same thing, but is more often used for intersowing two crops with growing periods of roughly the same length.

Some of these include crop rotation, intercropping strategies, companion planting, and the use of control (trap) crops. Refuge strips will also be used to attract beneficial insects to the Fruit & Vegetable Garden.

In an average size garden however several rows of each can generally be afforded and quick-growing, intercropping vegetables such as radish, lettuce, courgette or brassica can be grown in between the rows.
