Jardiniere

Gardening JaponicaJiffy pellets

To pour water into a saucer underneath a container of a houseplant or jardiniere, allowing the soil to absorb the amount needed. This is often done on plants whose leaves are harmed by water spots, such as African violets, Saintpaulia spp.

Tropical: A water element may or may not be present in this design style, but tender, big-leaved plants are a must. Red bananas and lady palms potted in cast concrete jardinieres bring splashes of color and a tropical flair to this garden.

Here nature is completely controlled, making one acutely aware of the design and symmetry. Plants are secondary to the geometry of the spaces; it is the statuary, jardinieres, pools and architectural elements that dominate.
