LATEX -- Milky sap which exudes from cut surfaces of a few house plants, such as Ficus elastica decora and Euphorbia.
latex A thick, white, fluid secretion of many plant species.
laticifer A cell producing latex.
Latex stains do not penetrate the wood surface and tend to perform like thin paints. They do however have some porosity which allows limited moisture movement with the wood underneath, providing more stability between the stain and the substrate.

To protect your hands, use disposable latex gloves. Never touch your face near your eyes, mouth, or nasal passages.
They have in common a milky white latex which oozes out of cut stems. It's toxic and if it gets onto your skin, you can't wash it off with water. You have to use methylated spirits. Treat all the Euphorbias with great respect.

It also develops in drought-stressed young plants because a lack of water causes lettuce to slow its growth and signals the plant to produce more latex, a bitter milky sap.
Since I was just making one birdbath here, I decided not to wear gloves. But if you're making several or you have sensitive skin, I'd recommend using latex or rubber gloves because the concrete really dries out your hands.

Don't forget to decorate the table with a scary punchbowl. Make human hands out of ice by filling a latex glove with water, freezing it, and then cutting the glove away. Float the hands in your punch bowl.
Grow plants in plastic pots, then place these into a decorative clay pot. Fill in the space between the pots with mulch.
Paint the inside of new containers with several coats of latex paint to waterproof them.
