About leaf mould
Most leaves can be turned into leaf mould, but some take longer to compost than others. Oak, alder and hornbeam will soon rot down, while sycamore, beech, horse chestnut and sweet chestnut take a little longer.

When speaking of plants it is always helpful to use a standardized set of descriptions to aid identification.

Leaf spot symptoms include small, purple-to-black spots on individual leaf blades. The spots become elliptical in shape and may be surrounded by a purple border. Tissue in the center of the spot may die and turn a beige or straw color.

Leaf shoot propagation
It can also be propagated from the leaf shoots. Break or cut off a 4-6 inch shoot from the stem and place it in water to root. Once rooted plant it in soil and you will have a new leafy plant.

leaf -- An organ found in most vascular plants; it consists of a flat lamina (blade) and a petiole (stalk). Many flowering plants have additionally a pair of small stipules near the base of the petiole.

Leaf Cuttings: A way to propagate new plants without using seeds. A method often used for African Violets and begonias in which instead of rooting an herbacious stem cutting, new plants are started from just one leaf.

Bay Leaf: Bay leaves are often used in concert with basil in tomato sauces and soup stock. Bay leaf enhances flavor in a way not unlike MSG but without raising concerns in regard to sodium intake and allergies.

rugose. A rough appearance of leaves in which veins are sunken and interveinal tissue raised, caused by certain virus infections.

Fiddle-Leaf Fig Ficus lyrata-Another large-leaved Ficus is the fiddle-leaf fig. Its foliage, as large as 18 inches long and a foot wide, and obovate to lyrate (lyre-shaped) or pandurate (fiddle-shaped), makes this plant easily recognizable.

ENTIRE LEAF -- An undivided and unserrated leaf.
EPIPHYTE -- A plant which grows above ground attaching itself to trees or rocks. The Amazon Air Plant seen in many nurseries is a good example.

This bacterial disease occurs wherever cucurbits are grown, but is especially troublesome in humid areas. Cucumbers, muskmelons, and summer squash are most susceptible.

Erratic lines on the leaves of current bushes and fruit trees. The leaf miner burrows between the layers of leaves, but doesn't do any lasting harm to the plant.
