Dried leaf margins can indicate fertilizer burn or wind burn. Always apply fertilizers according to label directions to avoid over-fertilizing. Organic fertilizers rarely cause burning because the nutrients are released slowly over time.

Browning leaf margins are the primary symptom. .. Entire leaves may wilt. Damage usually occurs first on newer leaves. On trees, the damage is most severe on youngest branches, with many leaves dropping during late summer.

Finely frilled leaf margins are called crispate. Parsley and Ming Aralia are both examples of crispate margins.

Wavy and irregular leaf margins, like on this Anthurium species, are called undulate.

Entire - A leaf margin with smooth, untoothed edges.
Evergreen - Trees with needles or leaves that remain alive and on the tree through the winter and into the next growing season.

The zonal geranium (Pelargonium x hortorum) is a hybrid between P. inquinans and P. zonale. The zonal geraniums have leaf margins that are often scalloped, zoned or variegated and have a heavy odor when bruised.

Symptoms of salt injury include stunted, yellowed foliage with brown edges, premature leaf color and death of the leaf margin; the later gives the plant a scorched appearance.

Monocotyledons are plants which have veins parallel to the leaf margins and a single leaf after germination (e.g. grasses). Dicotyledons bear two leaves after germination (e.g. peas, tomatoes, roses and a host of others).
