Birch Leaf miners are small, black wasps (sawflies) that feed inside the leaves of many birch cultivars. Their feeding forms blotch type mines and partial or whole areas inside the leaves are consumed.

Citrus leaf miner is a common pest during summer and autumn affecting all citrus. The larvae tunnels in the leaf, forming a squiggly silvery window pattern.

The primary threat to the well-being of a lovage plant is the leaf miner. These pests are tiny black flies, 1/10 inch long, with yellow stripes. Their larvae develop from eggs laid on the underside of the leaves.

Generally trouble free, columbines are sometimes visited by leaf miners. These are actually fly larvae. They tunnel between the two surfaces of a leaf, and make pale, winding trails as they tunnel.

The Asian leaf miner is a small creature that burrows into the undersides of leaves, making them twisted and deformed. Oil spray will kill miners but you will also want to remove and (preferably) burn infected leaves.

Those white squiggly lines are caused by leaf miners. Leaf miners are insect larvae which hatch from eggs deposited between the upper and lower surface of plant leaves.

Cause: Leaf miners. Look for small, pale larvae and 1"6-inch, green or black flying insects.
Remedies: Remove infested leaves. Move plant to a sheltered outdoor spot and spray foliage with neem oil extract solution.

Other insects such as aphids, spider mites, Japanese beetles, stinkbugs, leafhoppers, lima bean pod borers and leaf miners may be problems for some gardeners in different parts of the country.

A neem-based pesticide, Margosan-O, has been shown to control gypsy moths, leaf miners, sweet potato whiteflies, western flower thrips, loopers, caterpillars and mealybugs.

A chewing/rasping insect feeds on plant tissue and can cause ragged/chewed or missing leaves (caterpillars, slugs, beetles, grasshoppers), rolled leaves (leafroller), tunnels in between upper and lower leaf surfaces (leaf miners), holes in stems, ...

Unlike other species of black locust, 'Twisty Baby' is unbothered by leaf miners and borers. It tops out at only 15 feet (as opposed to 75 like many other black locusts), making it a great choice for small landscapes or containers.

Like most columbines, the columbine leaf miner can cause injury to the foliage. But, as the foliage typically dies back in mid-summer, remove the top of the plant as it dies away in July to tidy up the garden.

Pests are not a serious concern though you might be on the lookout for corn borers, flea beetles and leaf miners.
