LEAF ROLLER - Different moths that will roll leaves when larvae. Cannas often get a lot of leaf rollers. LEGGY - This is tall and spindly growth, not usual to the growth habit of the plant. It is seen because of the lack of light.
Occasionally small caterpillars, including canna leaf roller and corn earworms may chew holes in new leaves before they unfurl, creating a row of perforations when the leaves open. Overlook light damage or trim off damaged leaves.
Several other fruit tree pests, such as San Jose Scale, some mites and leaf rollers can be controlled with dormant oil treatment, applied in winter.
Host pests include various species of aphids, garden webworm, tomato hornworm, armyworms, strawberry leaf roller, and tent caterpillar, among others.
The beautiful Long-Tailed Skipper uses green beans as well; its larva, the bean leaf roller, feeds on the leaves, but it is not voracious.
Aphids seem to be the most persistent pests, although cabbage looper, and leaf roller are still active in some areas and powdery mildew can become a problem if the weather remains damp. And many animals find them as tempting as edible cabbages.
Depending on the geographical region and the weather, apple trees can be beset by cedar-apple rust, powdery mildew, fire blight, bitter rot and apple scab. Among the bugs, there are codling moths, plum curculios, mites, aphids, scale and leaf rollers.
Insect galls, Japanese beetles and leaf rollers sometimes feed on the foliage. Powdery mildew and leaf spot occasionally attack this plant.
