LITHOPHYTE - Plants that grow on rocks or other areas that do not need soil. They will receive their nourishment from the air. i.e. orchids and lichens.

In the wild, Australian orchids are mostly either epiphytes growing on the bark of trees or shrubs, or lithophytes growing on wet cliff-faces or boulders.

If there's one thing that orchids are not, it's typical. Some are terrestrials. Some are epiphytes. Some are lithophytes. Some orchids actually look like exotic flowers, while others appear to be experiments in alien DNA.
