Diameter of the spear has no bearing on quality. Spears should be harvested when they are 5 to 7″ high and before the tips begin to loosen. Once the tips loosen, the spears become tough and fibrous.

Clear the site of all building materials (wood, cement, bricks, etc.), as well as any buried stumps, rocks , stones or other debris that is larger than 4-5 cm (2-3 inches) in diameter.
In preparing baths, a thermometer is the best temperature test, however, the "elbow test" will sometimes help when a thermometer is not available. A cold bath is an excellent means of stimulating the system.

MATERIALS FOR A GARDEN ROUGHLY THREE BY THREE METERS
- Two cubic metres of a sandy topsoil. It's easy to form into a mound, and retains a suitable amount of moisture for alpine plants.
Take your knife and cut holes along the edges of the bin's lid, about 1 centimeter wide. I placed these about 3 centimeters apart. Next, cut a few holes in the middle of the lid. These holes will allow air and moisture to circulate.
BUILD YOUR PILE about four feet in diameter, and four feet high, on a well-drained site.
Prepare the soil for planting rhubarb by deep trenching a hole 1 meter wide and by the same depth if possible. Fork over the subsoil and add 1kg of bone dust or meal. Mix equal parts of stable, cow or poultry manure and replace to form a mound.
