For a hedge, Japanese Box Buxus microphylla is much faster growing than English Box. Planted at 50 cm centres in enriched soil and cut back hard when planted will give the desired effect of very dense planting for a screen.

Littleleaf Mockorange (Philadelphus microphyllus) is a fine-textured compact shrub with slender twigs, brown & white bark & small, narrow, dark green leaves. Native to the southwestern U.S. it is drought tolerant. Hardy to zone 3 and 9,000 ft.

The disease has also been observed in littleleaf boxwood (Buxus microphylla) in Virginia. Aboveground symptoms include poor growth and off-color foliage. Leaves are at first light green and may turn yellow, bronze, or straw-colored.
