The leaves of a bird of paradise plant are bluish-green with a red midrib. This thick, evergreen foliage resembles small banana leaves, attached to a long stalk. In contrast to the banana, however, bird of paradise plants are trunkless.
Pecan leaf phylloxera produces small, ovoid to globular, next to the midribs or secondary veins of the leaflets, open on the ventral surface of the leaf. They are evenly green on the top and often reddish beneath when first formed.
The species has green leaves that are often tinged pinkish bronze when young, feature a red midrib and edges through the summer, and turn yellow and red in fall.

One method is leaf wedge cuttings. Cut a leaf into several wedges. The midrib of the leaf should run through the middle of each wedge.
