What are Monocots and Dicots?
Flowering plants were divided into 2 classes: Monocotyledones (monocots) and Dicotyledones (dicots). As the names imply, the main distinction is the number of cotyledons present in the seed embryo - 1 or 2.
Monocot - One of two main divisions of flowering plants (the other being dicots), characterized by having a single cotyledon (seed leaf); examples include grasses, orchids, bamboos, and palms.
Monocot A plant of the angiosperm group having one cotyledon.
Monoculture Growing only one particular type of plant.
Monoecious A species with unisexual flowers, having both sexes on the same plant.
