Shade Netting
Hot, summer sun can affect the lush, moist flavor of homegrown lettuce, making it bitter; a few days of hot sun will make lettuce bolt to seed, ruining it for the season.

VIGNETTING - (1) When unintentional, it is underexposure at the image's edges or corners caused by an unsuitable lens hood, filter or other attachment that partially blocks the field of view.

Pest Netting- It's very effective against birds. Pest netting makes good fencing to deter rabbits, deer, and some other animals. Some insects are very large and can be kept out of a small garden protected by 1/4" netting.

Deer Netting: To prevent winter deer damage you need to take prompt action in the fall and subsequent falls to insure it doesn't happen again. I used a product found in hardware stores called deer netting.

Wire Netting Covers
Support some of that light flexible fencing wire, mosquito mesh or even plastic mesh over your seedlings of fruiting plants, and support it with garden stakes to keep the birds away from your plants.

Netting, however, can sometimes be impractical. It can snag or tear on twigs or thorns, which often causes broken plants. One solution is to build an inexpensive framework or cage that completely covers the bushes or plants.

Netting stapled to a fence provides a support for snap peas, which will climb three to four feet.

Use netting and screening to keep adult mosquitoes out of porches, decks and other living areas in the summer. Adult mosquito control in yards is best accomplished with pyrethroid insecticides.

For birds, use netting. We make our own support hoops from flexible, black plastic irrigation tubing, commonly called polytube, and available at most garden centers. Cut it in lengths appropriate for the width of your garden beds.

Roost inhibitors include spikes, chemical barriers, and netting. These are perhaps the most commonly used methods of bird control and are very effective at keeping birds off of ledges, beams, and other outcroppings.

To complete the fence, any tight woven plastic or metal netting linked from pole to pole will suffice. Reuse tennis or badminton netting that isn't being utilized, or parts of a screen from a door or window, even plastic tarp pieces will work.

If a bird or raccoon rips through the netting, it's no great loss; I just add another.

If you aren't growing your gooseberries in a fruit cage, cover bushes with netting during June and July to keep off birds. Ensure it's weighted down at the base to prevent blackbirds getting underneath.

After the first year, we tired of holes pecked in each strawberry, and learned to cover these fruits with netting.

After natural fruit drop in late June, thin fruits on apple, pear, peach, and apricot trees carefully to produce larger, better fruit.

Pea netting or even fish netting is ideal to allow the tendrils to form a good grip. If trellising just isn't in the picture for your garden, I would recommend growing a semi-leafless pea variety like Novella II.

When it comes to bird netting for fruit trees, you want to use about 5/8 inch netting. This can prevent the birds from even reaching the fruits as they ripen.

Place wire netting around the entire bed. Fill this enclosure with about three feet of leaves (preferably oak). Cover the leaves with marsh hay to prevent them from blowing away.

Mosquito netting, fine mesh hardware cloth, tree wrap, tarpaper, cotton batting, or even layers of newspaper should be wrapped loosely around the trunk, tied at the top with twine and covered at the bottom with soil.

Alternatively, save up small biodegradable cardboard cartons, such as egg cartons or find biodegradable netting, such as old cotton stockings. Fill the egg cartons with the preferred soil and seed mix as above methods outline.

Clematis need something to climb on. Sweet pea netting or plastic mesh work well.

Back fill with good quality top soil mixed with a handful of bone meal (if your soil has a high clay content add peat moss).

Apply mulch at 1-2 inches thick so seedlings can penetrate. On steeper slopes, use netting made of jute, excelsior, fiberglass or plastic. Such netting will prevent seeds and soil from washing away during Colorado's heavy rain storms.

By covering a row of crop with a light netting (which allows the sunlight to come through) flying unwanted insects are effectively kept away from the plants. These are generally used for food crops.

The fruit will encourage birds to your garden too, and you might have to share the fruit with them. Otherwise, light netting is available by the roll. Four iron stakes joined over the top with poly-pipe makes a good support for the netting.

Drape the frame with nylon netting, or encircle and criss-cross it with strong string or raffia, looped and knotted in place. A couple of weeks before your last frost date, plant a circle of 'Sugar Snap' pea seeds around the outer edge.

Beds' narrow dimensions even make it practical to suspend bird netting on flexible conduit frames. You can control weeds with plastic mulch economically, since the width of the bed can be spanned by one roll.

Clean the pot and cover the drainage holes with smallpieces of plastic netting. Insert holding wires - garden wire used to hold the tree in position - through the drainage holes.

Traditionally peas were grown up sticks but now pea netting is available.
