The first thing that needs to be done is a soil test to see how acidic the soil actually is. You want your soil pH to be around 7.0 or neutral.

If you want truly the best, grow mid day or day neutral varieties. Larry has had great success with the yellow mid day, Candy Hybrid. It grows to softball size and stores well.

The only way to ascertain whether the soil is acidic, neutral or alkaline is with a soil test. Upon learning the composition of the soil, your decisions on what to grow and how to care for your lawn will be much more educated.
