Organophosphates to avoid:
Furadan (Carbofuran) - An insecticide and nematicide available in granular or liquid formulations. Birds that ingest a grain of Furadan, mistaking it for seed, die almost immediately.

Acephate is an organophosphate which is the general name for esters of phosphoric acid. Organophosphates are the basis of many insecticides, herbicides, and nerve gases.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), "Organophosphates can affect the nervous system.

I think that the permethrin/esfenvalerate products are equivalent to or superior to the organophosphates for almost all insect control purposes (including borers).

Some gardeners use the organophosphate insecticide phosmet (Imidan) to control curculio. Compared to other organophosphate insecticides it does not persist long in the environment.

The WALH has developed resistance to the organophosphate insecticides in many apple growing regions. Therefore, consult your local recommendations for the best materials to use in your area.
