Japanese pagodatree (Sophora japonica) also known as Chinese Scholar
Chinese Scholar Tree or Japanese Pagoda Tree A native of China, this medium sized tree grows to 65 feet in height, usually with a broad round crown.

pagodaThe word Pagoda came into English from Portuguese and may derive from the Persian butkada=temple for idols (a stupa). It is now used for a sacred Chinese or Indian building, or an imitation of such a building in a garden.

Now this is the way to feature a plant. I can't tell you what that arching yellow flowered shrub is, but I can tell you it steals the show.

Pagoda Dogwood (Cornus alternifolia): Its layered, horizontal branching habit creates a shape reminiscent of pagoda roof tiles. The green foliage turns burgundy in fall; deep leaf creases are visible from a distance.

Japanese Pagoda tree (Sophora japonica): Named for its popular use near Buddhist temples, the Pagoda tree is medium-sized at a maximum height of 40 feet. It is virtually free of pest or disease problems and is resistant to storm damage.

Within the five separate gardens, visitors will find pagodas, pavilions, Zen sand gardens, ponds, a waterfall, and even an authentic teahouse.

The Gloriosa Lily Gloriosa superba dies back to tubers in the dry season, and as soon as the rains come it climbs up into the canopy to flower. Pagoda Flower Clerodendrum paniculatum is a beautiful mid story plant but it will spread rapidly.
