Plants for Parched Gardens
All gardens need supplemental water once in a while, but growing plants that are natural water misers, such as cotoneaster, stonecrop, and yucca, keeps this need within practical limits.

Line tart shell with large round (about 16") of buttered parchment paper, buttered side down, leaving 2" overhang. Crimp parchment tightly around rim of pan to protect top edge of dough from over-browning. Fill with dried beans or pie weights.

It's hot, the sun is intense, the trade winds often stall, the rain slackens to faint showers that do little to quench the parched soil. The garden requires extensive care just to survive.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Spray a 6-muffin jumbo tin with nonstick vegetable spray. In a food processor, process almonds and ½ cup of the flour until finely ground, about 15 seconds; set aside.

Rocamboles have parchment skins that are quite a bit thinner than softneck varieties. These thin skined bulbs don't store long, but they peel easily.

Place each bath bomb onto a sheet of parchment (baking paper) or wax paper on a flat surface. Put this somewhere that you can leave undisturbed while the bath bombs dry out. Depending on the humidity, this can take up to a week.

If water drains (percolates) away from plant roots too quickly, the plants will parch even if they're getting regular water. And if water doesn't drain, many plants will drown and rot from the roots up.

Line a baking tray with parchment paper (or use vegetable cooking spray). In a large mixing bowl, combine greens, dill, parsley, pine nuts, cheese, yogurt and egg; mix together well. Add some of the breadcrumbs if mixture seems too wet.

I like to use acid free parchment paper to glue my samples onto. Look for parchment that will give an aged look to the finished work. This can usually be found in craft stores or scrapbooking supply stores.

But my lilac bushes certainly confirm that those brown parchment seeds-looking like tiny dried lanceolate leaves-were remarkable things! ...

Are the plants lush and full, or do they look parched? Do you see employees walking around, taking care of them, or do the plants seem neglected? If the plants don't look tip-top, find another nursery.

Valuable water has not been wasted on the brown and parched lawn. The first autumn rains will rejuvenate it, to the extent that within a couple of month's it will need mowing again.

Suited to side dishes, stews, soups, casseroles, frying (parched corn), etc.

Lightly grease the pans with solid shortening. Cut wax paper or parchment liners to fit inside and press the papers against the greased pan bottom and sides. Lightly coat the paper with cooking spray.

It does not tolerate parched conditions. It is a bulbous variety that is propagated by division in the fall. This is one fo the varieties that is planted en mass on the water edge though it can appear under large trees and between garden stones.

Summer bedding is often at its best at this time, but if the weather is dry the grass may start to look parched and brown and the leaves on the trees and shrubs no longer look as fresh and green as they did in May and early June.
