PEAT POT - Compressed peat into a pot that can be used for starting seeds. When planting times comes this entire pot can be put in the ground and the roots will grow through the pot as it decomposes.

Peat pots make planting extra easy: Just dig the hole, put in the plant, and fill in with soil. There's no need to take your plants out of the pot.

- Fill individual peat pots, seed-starting flats, or 3-inch-diameter containers with a commercial seed-starting mix. Moisten the mix and let it drain.

This may seem like a peculiar concern, but if you're going to plant your flower seeds directly into the garden, or put individual seeds into peat pots, the seeds need to be large enough to handle.

If you are staring inside, plant the seeds with pointed end facing down in 6-inch peat pots. Ensure that the temperature of the soil between 85 and 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Most seeds will germinate within 5 days.

Start your corn in square peat pots set in brand new black plastic flats that you can buy at your local garden center. Use a good soilless mixture composed of peat moss and vermiculite or perlite.

Sow seeds one inch (2.5 centimetres) deep in individual peat pots two to four weeks before the expected last frost in your area.

(Note: If you're using peat pots, wet them before you fill them with soil.) If you're sowing your seed in flats or trays, use a dibble, pencil or finger to carefully make depressions in the mix in rows.

- If transplants were started in peat pots, you can place the entire pot into the ground. The plant's roots will grow through the pot and it will decompose.

If you germinated the seed in peat pots, carefully break open the bottom to promote downward root growth. If your plants are in plastic pots, pop out the root ball and gently spread the roots.

i recently purchased a small- 8" rosemary bush in a peat pot for my new herb garden. i tore the bottom out of the peat pot and planted it into a larger ceramic pot to allow for growth, probably three days ago.

Utility knives are handy for cutting twine, peat pots, and heavy plastic containers.
Kneeling pads or old pillow are essential to cushion your knees from the hard, uneven surface of the ground.

You may also start the seeds indoors in 3-inch peat pots four to six weeks before the last frost is due and then plant the pots directly into the garden when you can be sure they won't be killed off by a late frost.

If you prefer transplants, avoid large ones. Start plants inside in peat pots or pellets 3 to 4 weeks before outside planting date.

Because they can be planted directly into the ground, peat pots and Jiffy 7 pellets work well for seedlings that are temperamental about being transplanted into the garden, morning glories and members of the squash family, for instance.

Any container with drainage holes can be used to hold seedlings, but I prefer the 2-inch square plastic pots. They are perfect and pack neatly in trays. Or you can use peat pots that go right into the soil without disturbing plants' roots.

It's possible to lengthen the growing season through the use of transplants. Vine Crops will die from root disturbance, so they should be planted while still in a peat pot.

If seedlings are in peat-pots, peel away the upper edge of the pot so that the entire pot is below ground after planting. If any of the peat pot protrudes above the soil after planting, it can wick moisture away from the seedling.

They should make a container with a bottom, and stand flat when you place them on a table or tray. I then use these as my seed starting containers, like you would a peat pot.
