Pheromone-A substance secreted by an organism to affect the behavior or development of other members of the same species; sex pheromones that attract the opposite sex for mating are used in monitoring certain insects.

pheromone A vapor or liquid emitted by an insect that causes a specific response from a receiving insect. Some pheromones are used to attract a mate. Synthetic pheromones are used as attractants in insect traps.

Pheromone traps combine an insect attractant and sticky-walled cardboard to capture flying and crawling insects, like whiteflies.

(Note: Pheromone traps contain the sex attractant used by the female to attract male moths. They are highly effective in this regard but, unfortunately, trapping male insects doesn't do much in terms of population control.

Don't use pheromone traps (those plastic bags that get full of beetles while attracting legions more than they catch).
Use biological control agents such as nematodes and milky spore bacteria.

Try soldier bug pheromone bait, available from gardening catalogs and stores, to draw this powerful predator to your garden.

The other method is to take all of the male coddling moths out of circulation, and using pheromone traps does this.
