Cut gradually back along the cane until you hit white healthy pith. Next we want to select three or four canes that will form the frame of the plant. Cut everything else off entirely. Now cut those canes back to between 6 and 12 inches.

They mine out the cambium and pith on small twigs and branches and are often confused with Ips beetles. However, twig beetles are smaller, prefer thin bark and are found on smaller twigs and branches rather than larger branches or trunks.

Storage of lemons is important because it increases their juiciness. Often if you pick and use a lemon immediately, you find the pith is thick and there is little juice.

This helps to keep any cane borers or cane-boring wasps from entering into the tender, fresh center pith.

Grate the peel from one lemon, being careful to get only the yellow layer and none of the white pith underneath. Rub the grated peel into the affected body part and wrap with a bandage. (cotton prefer) Keep in place for one to two hours.

Later it feeds along the center of the shoot in the pith above or below the gall (Fig. 5). The mature larva is 10 mm long, legless, is a yellowishwhite color, and has a light-brown head with dark mouth parts.

Don't discard any plants unless you are positive there are no signs of life; test by scratching the bark to see if there is any green pith showing. Some will not revive until June, when they may regrow from the base or shoot again from the branches.

and then the sloped part is cut over horizontally near the middle of the slope, a cleft nearly two inches long is made with a stout knife or chisel in the crown downward, at right angles to the sloped part, taking care not to divide the pith.

The glue forms a nice barrier over the cut end of the cane to protect the center pith from cane boring insects that will cause damage to the cane and can kill the entire cane and sometimes the rose bush.

Damage Control: Cut the affected cane back, an inch at a time, until you reach strong, white pith (center) without a hole.

Roses in pots are actively growing and can be planted anytime in spring or fall. Whether you choose container or bareroot plants, be sure they have strong, green canes with white pith. The roots should be plentiful and almost as long as the topgrowth.

Clean out the inside of the gourd with a serrated knife and old spoons in order to separate the seeds and papery pith. It does not have to be perfectly clean. Next, drill three to five 3/8' holes at the bottom of the gourd for rainwater drainage.

If there are any splits as in the illustration, care must be taken when putting the graft together so that each tongue fits in the correct position. Care should be taken to avoid loose bits of pith in the cuts too.
