Post-emergent herbicides are only marginally effective. Triclopyr + clopyralid or triclopyr alone are suggested.

Post-emergence herbicides, such as 2,4-D and MCPP, are recommended when weeds are already up and growing.

Post-emergent controls are products that work after the weed has come up. The weed and feed method is applied through a granular spreader.

What is Post-Emergent Selective Herbicide?
Find out if post-emergent selective herbicides are right for your garden; learn about using herbicides.

So many homeowners pump gallons of post-emergent herbicides on their lawns that they deplete their soil of vital nutrients, as well as potentially poison the local water sources.

Post-emergent applications are also effective if made when plants are small, less than 4 inches in diameter. Labeled post-emergent products include 2, 4-D and combinations, dicamba, glyphosate, triclopyr, and pendimethalin.

For dandelions, you’re best served with a post-emergent, broadleaf weed killer. Post-emergent herbicides target specific breeds (in this case, broadleaved weeds) and can be sprayed directly on lawns.

Monterey Weed-Hoe controls crabgrass as a post-emergence treatment. Apply in May to August and Monterey Weed-Hoe will effectively control this grass with little effect on the turf.

In post-emergence damping off the seedlings emerge then may pale, curl, wilt, and collapse from a rot at the soil line and below. The base of the stem is generally water-soaked at first then turns gray to brown or black then rots.

They say if you snooze, you lose! Crabgrass germinates in the spring, and once that happens, you'll need to switch control tactics. Use a post-emergent herbicide that's labeled for crabgrass control. (And always follow the label directions to a tee!) ...

Several herbicides on the market address this problem, including Roundup, an effective post-emergent, non-selective herbicide. Read the instructions carefully and avoid applying on windy days. Note that Roundup does not work on weed seeds.

Grasses often invade your garden beds. Dachthal is a pre-emergent grass killer that can be used near vegetable and fruit crops. Sethoxydim is a post-emergent grass killer that will control most of your grasses.

It's particularly important that you read and follow label instructions carefully as not all herbicides for weed control are the same. For example, pre-emergent types control weeds by preventing seed germination. Post-emergent herbicides are only ...
