Gardening Pot upPotash

Potager beds are planted (naturally enough) in what is called the French intensive method. In a nutshell, the distance normally recommended between plants within a row is roughly the distance you leave between rows in the bed.

Potager Garden
A garden by its very nature is decorative - but it doesn't need to be made up of just flowers.

A potager can be quite a challenging undertaking. It will help to keep a garden notebook, recording the varieties of vegetables you plant, where the seed came from and the planting and harvesting dates.

A potager is similar to the traditional English cottage garden but mainly based on vegetables and other edible plants and herbs, often incorporating some cut flower plants for the household.

The Potager: A Kitchen Garden in the French Country Style
Today's potager is typically informal, or romantic, with an intimate and sensual style centered on vegetables rather than flowers.
