8. Predatory Snails
A predatory snail called a Decollate snail (Rumina decollata) will feed on young snails and may be worth a try, but they also may nibble on young plants.

Many of the insects that assault your vegetable garden have natural predators. Plant dill, parsley and yarrow to attract the braconid wasp that kills corn borers, army worms, cabbage worms, codling moths and horn worms.
Natural predators such as ladybugs, parasitic wasps, syphrid fly larvae and green lacewing larvae are biological controls that feed on aphids. They reduce the population and can eliminate the need for treatment when present.
Predatory pirate bugs are a little different in that the larval stage is a miniature version of the adult insect and both eat the same food: spider mites, thrips and insect eggs.

Cover from predators - Toads are a tasty meal for many animals. Snakes, birds and the occasional house pet will kill and eat toads. Provide plenty of foliage and slightly elevated areas where toads can stay safe.
Other natural predators of aphids include hoverflies and their larvae, lace wings and small birds. By having a healthy garden and not using chemical sprays, these predators will be present.

Army worms invaded my yard almost a year ago. The winter here (Dallas, TX) was not cold enough to kill them. I have been researching the problem before most agricultural services admitted that there was a problem.
Plants send messages to animals ("Sweet nectar here!" "My leaves are toxic!") and to other plants ("Predator Alert!") encoded in many of the same chemicals that make fragrant plants appealing to humans.
Some (fermented egg yolks) offend deer's sense of smell; others (predator urines) frighten them. More of these products are licensed for use on ornamental plants than on food plants; follow directions for application.

There are predators of cabbage white caterpillars so if your garden has good biodiversity there are several types of parasitic wasps, as well as birds, ground beetles and hoverfly larvae that will help you out.
Keep in mind that birds have many natural predators. To make them feel more secure in your yard and more likely to stay, try to hang feeding stations near trees or bushes where birds can hide, if necessary.

" For the organic gardener, you can use a predator to hunt and eat the slugs. One such predator is the Nematode worm. These worms only enjoy the warmer weather, so it's best to not use them in early spring or fall.
Cowpea Curculio: Natural predators include Tachinid Fly and ants. Keeping late-season plantings away from the sites of earlier plantings will keep the Cowpea Curculio population from snowballing as the season wears on.
As weather conditions improve, introduce the predator Encarsia formosa to control whitefly. You may need to make two introductions to build up its numbers sufficiently to keep the whitefly population under control.

Fox urine works on animals where foxes are a natural predator. Pepper sprays makes your plants taste and smell bad, and can be effective against rabbits, squirrel and deer. It must be applied frequently and after heavy rains.
A post of wood makes it easier for predators to access a birdhouse, so ¾" galvanized pipe is preferred. The length of the pipe is dependent on the type of birdhouse you are mounting, but it should be 1' longer than the intended finished height.
MITES: Red spider or two-spotted mite becomes a real pest after insecticide sprays in spring wipe out the good guys who are their predators.
Fake 'em out. Rubber snakes, plastic owls and other faux predators can fool birds and rodents. If animals get comfortable with the "fakes," move or replace them.
The tall corn stalks act as a decoy to protect the pumpkins in your garden from pesty bug predators like squash borers (believe it or not, there is actually some scientific evidence to suggest that this works!).
