Pruning shears are basically special scissors used to trim dead portions of plants. These clippers feature sharp, curved blades that make clean cuts when pruning plants. Pruning shears come in a wide variety of models and prices.
Pruning shears use a scissors action to cut through stems less than 1/2 in (1 cm) thick. Light thinning and heading back, including deadheading of flowers, can usually be done with pruning shears.
Use pruning shears or lopping shears to cut the sides of the ivy if it is a very big patch. You want to keep the ivy log manageable.
