Turk's cap lily or the Martagon hybrids have petals that face downward with swept-back or reflexed petals, giving them the appearance of a "Turk's Cap".
They have white petals, sometimes slightly reflexed, and a flat but brilliantly colored small cup of a vibrant color that sometimes seems to leak into the base of the petals. That cup is usually edged with red, making the blooms unusually vibrant.
Its 3- to 6-inch-diameter flowers are notable for their reflexed (drooping) petals. Bloom begins in midsummer and lasts until frost. Plants grow 3 to 3-1/2 feet tall.
The cup is about ¾ of an inch long, and the petals are slightly reflexed. The plant's foliage is only about 8 inches long and very tidy. In most years, it's the first daffodil to bloom in my garden, appearing about the first of March.
