Reticulated Iris -- Iridaceae reticulata
This popular little iris grows 4 to 6 inches tall with small purple and gold ridged flowers that open in late winter or early spring. Leaves are narrow and four-angled.

reticulate -- Interconnecting, like a network.
rhizoid -- n. A cellular outgrowth of a plant that usually aids in anchoring to the surface and increasing surface area to acquire water or nutrients; found in mosses, liverworts, and hornworts.

RETICULATE -- Marked with a branched network of veins or fibers.
RHIZOME -- A thickened stem which grows horizontally below or on the soil surface.
ROOT BALL -- Matted roots plus enclosed soil within a the pot of a container grown plant.

Reticulate Like a net, the interstices closed. Usually referring to the veins of a leaf.
Reniformis/reniforme Epithet meaning kidney shaped.

Some miniature bulbs like reticulate irises and snowdrops will bloom with no transplant shock the spring following division, provided they are not kept out of the ground too long. Daffodils and tulips are nearly as forgiving.

The varieties developed from "Iris reticulate" offer bold yellow, orange, purple, blue and white blooms on plants just four to six inches tall. Another group from "Iris histrioides" are primarily purple and white with varying combinations.
