That said, I can say with absolute certainty that all gardeners have their weaknesses - there is always that one plant, that dirty little secret whose riddle just can't be cracked. Mine used to be radishes.

If your site is riddled with tree roots, it's a good idea to stick to small bulbs that don't have to be planted more than 2 to 4 inches deep.

Landscape professional Mary Beth Riddle agrees. "Have a diverse selection of fruiting and flowering trees and shrubs," says the horticulturist and garden manager of Lambert's Landscape Company in Dallas.

Do not hesitate to prune off limbs or branches that are riddled with holes that are oozing sap, or are surrounded by sawdust, which are made by boring caterpillars.

If you plan to use your compost in potting soil or to topdress the lawn-or for any other purpose where you might not want large clumps, stones or other debris-a screen (also called a sifter, sieve or "riddle") can be very helpful.

Riddlers Night Out is a bronze statue of a strutting, tuxedo-attired frog bearing a bottle of Schramsberg's finest.

Arugula, mustard and cabbage are susceptible to flea beetles-tiny, black insects that riddle leaves with small holes and can kill seedlings. Cover seed beds or young transplants with floating row covers.

Wireworms will attack any plant but are especially fond of potatoes and carrots which they riddle with holes. These larvae are thin and shiny with a yellowish skin.

Put logs or tree stumps in sunny spots, especially those that have some shelter from inclement weather. If possible, use wood riddled with beetle tunnels.
Leave dead trees standing, if possible.

But for a tree riddled with borers and other problems it might be better to remove the tree and plant a healthy, new one. Plant it a little away from the old tree and in a couple of years you'll have a great crop of lemons.

Next, carefully take your asparagus crowns and sit them on top of the mound, spreading the roots out either sides - plant crowns 30cm apart and then cover with about 5cm of soil, which has been sifted through a riddle or sieve.

with rhododendrons and azaleas, but is also a lovely tree planted as an accent in a yard. The tree grows wild in the Northeastern and Eastern United States, but should never be transplanted from the wild. Dogwood trees in the wild are often riddled ...

Don't plant donated rooted suckers from another gardener that are likely virus-riddled. Poor-quality fruit can also be due to viruses such as Crumble-berry virus which causes exactly what its name implies.
