Rose black spot, caused by the fungus Diplocarpon rosae, is the most common cause of defoliation of landscape roses in Eastern United States. The disease is less of a problem in greenhouses where relative humidity can be carefully controlled.

When it comes to the basics of planning a rose garden, the most important step is proper preparation. After all, if you lay the right groundwork, the best blooms are sure to follow.

Rose aficionados usually prefer bare-root roses. There tends to be more interesting choices if you want a specific or harder-to-find rose variety.

Uses Rose petals can be used to make wine and can be candied fro food decoration. When dried they are good for pot-pourri. Dry rosehips for later use. Hips can also be used for wine or rosehip jelly which can be used with meat like cranberry jelly.

Moss Rose is a hardy annual well suited to hot, dry areas where other flowers wilt or refuse to grow. Easy to grow, Moss Rose plants requires little care and attention. A small plant, they grow just 4 to 8 inches.

Moss Rose grows just four to six inches tall. Place it in the front of your flower garden. Try planting Moss Rose as border edging, in rock gardens, as bedding plants or ground cover. They also look good in containers and hanging pots.

General purpose rose fertilizer and commercial rose food are both good options. Just make sure if you use dry fertilizer to scratch it into the soil without touching the cane or the bud.
