Also known as plant lice, aphids are small sap-sucking insects that are known to infest kale. By removing a plant's sap, the aphids slowly drain the life from it.

If you see the small, pear-shaped, sap-sucking insects known as aphids clustered on the leaf undersides of new growth, knock them off the plant with a forceful spray of water. Or apply insecticidal soap according to the package directions.

HONEY DEW - The sweet and sticky syrup secreted by aphids and other sap-sucking insects. It then sometimes gets moldy fungus on it. Should be washed off with a soapy water rinse.
