Semi-double flower - A type of flower which has double the normal amount of petals arranged in two-three rows of petals.

Semi-double A flower with only a few stamens converted to petals; a flower with less than twice the normal number of petals.

Double, Semi-Double
A flower with more than the normal number of petals, sepals or florets; in some cases petals or staminodes may replace stamens. A double form may be designated botanically by flore pleno, plena or pleniflora.

Semi-double flowers and blooms with dark margins are the result of work by hybridizer Helen Ballard, in England. ‘Peggy Ballard' Is a deep reddish pink with a darker center and veins. ‘Philip Ballard' is a dark bluish-black.

'Min' bears semi-double pale violet blooms with dark purple veins and shading.
'Pericles' bears semi-double pale blue blooms with white centers.
'Spindrift' bears semi-double pale blue with cream centers.

'Autumnalis' is an unusual plant in that it bears long-lasting semi-double white flowers intermittently from fall to spring, depending on the climate. Most Higan cherries are bushy plants that reach 25-30 ft (7.6-9.1 m) tall and are hardy to Zone 5.

Introduced in 1932, the climbing (to seven feet) rose produces brilliant, scarlet-red clusters of semi-double flowers in tremendous quantities in June.

The 3 to 4-1/2 inch flowers are double or semi-double and long lasting as cut flowers. Best when grown in the full sun, 'Cherokee Sunset' plants are about 24 to 30 inches tall, spreading about a foot.

- Blush Noisette: A climbing, repeat-blooming rose with semi-double pink blossoms. Disease resistant and grows in partial shade.

A third choice is a favorite of many people, the Hollyhock. These grow quite tall, 7 to 8 feet, and produce a special semi-double or double petals. This type of flower has been around for a very long time and they are easy to grow.
