Serrated Blades - Shears with some type of toothed or wavy blade can be a littleeasier to cut with and will hold onto the branch being cut, however the cut itself will be less clean than a straight-edged blade.

Serrate - cut into sharp, saw-like teeth pointing forward.
Dentate - toothed, teeth point outward instead of forward and are large.
Crenate - teeth are short and rounded; also called scalloped.

Sessile Without a stalk.

Serrate leaves have saw-toothed margins; Abutilon is one such example.

Crenate leaves have wavy edges. Swedish Ivy has crenate margins.

SERRATE: Saw-edged leaf design.
SESSILE: A stalkless leaf or flower which is borne directly on the stem.
SET: In reference to shallot bulbs and small onions, as in sets of onions.

Serrated flower shears keep stems from slipping out during the cut. Their main purpose is to cleanly cut flower stems, allowing bouquets to absorb water in a vase. For best results, cut your flowers in the garden with bypass pruning shears first.
