Sheet composting. Experts at Michigan State University say that if you leave the grass clippings when you mow and allow them to decompose, you can skip one application of fertilizer. Do the same with leaves. Don't rake them.

 


Sheet composting can be done in the fall. With this method, a thin layer of materials such as leaves (that have not been composted) are worked into the garden. By spring, the material will be broken down.

Sheet Composting
Sheet composting is a way to obtain the benefits of decayed organic material without building a composting pile. Sheet composting involves spreading a thin layer of organic materials, such as leaves, over a garden area.

SHEET COMPOSTING - A method of piling un-decomposed organic materials over the soil and waiting for decomposition. At times working it in the soil.

Compost can be made in a bin, but sheet composting is another popular method.

The increase of the globe's average temperature is because of the carbon dioxide the soil emits when tilled. The good news is that tilling can be minimized by mulching or sheet composting.
