SHORT DAY PLANT -- A plant which requires light for a shorter period than it would normally receive from daylight in order to induce flowering; e.g Chrysanthemum and Poinsettia.
Short day plant - A plant that responds (by flowering) to photoperiods that are shorter (i.e. during winter). Shovel - A tool used to dig up soil. Shrubs - Plants with large bushy foilage. Often used as natural fences or screens.
Mums are a short day plant, which means they form flowers when the nights get longer. Commercial flower growers know how to trick the Chrysanthemum into flowering at any time of the year.
