A dry, dehiscent, elongated fruit formed from a superior ovary of two carpels, with two parietal placentas and divided into two loculi by a false septum between the placentas, occurring in plants of the family Cruciferae.

 


Do not confuse with siliqua (the similar-looking seedpod of locust and carob trees.)

Leaves on the flowering stems are coarsely toothed and have wavy margins. The plant may grow from 1 to 1 1/2 feet in height. Two-inch long, bean-like seedpods (siliques) that resemble "beaks" mature in early summer.
