Burned lime (calcium oxide) is also called quicklime or unslaked lime and is manufactured by roasting crushed lime in a furnace to drive off carbon dioxide.

 


Lime is also called burnt lime, calyx, fluxing lime, quick lime or unslaked lime.

This popular after-meal digestive is made from betel leaf, slaked lime, betel nut, and other additives such as coconut and nutmeg. Chewed betel leaves are also used medicinally for catarrhal and pulmonary disorders.

An over acid soil can be made more alkaline by the addition of lime. This is available in several forms: slaked lime, hydrated lime, ground limestone and calcified seaweed.
