Planting with Sprigs
There are two basic ways to plant sprigs: planting in rows and broadcast spreading. Once your grading is done and your soil is amended, then it's time to plant.

 


Sprigs are thin 3- to 6-inch pieces of grass stems or runners without soil. Plugs are 2- to-4-inch chunks of sod, either round or square, with soil around their roots.

Sprigs are tiny grass plants that have leaves and roots that are planted close together for optimal results. They also have about four nodes where can roots grow.

Why plugs or sprigs? They're cheaper that sod, and they give you a mature lawn faster than sowing seed can. The trade-off is that installation is time- and labor-intensive, and plugs and sprigs require care to achieve even coverage.

Sprigs or small seedlings can be planted at intervals, and also takes time to establish.
Turf can be laid at any time of the year; it is simple to do, economical and effective.
