Prunus Stem Pitting
I. Introduction: Prunus stem pitting (PSP) is caused by tomato ringspot virus, which can attack all stone fruit species, as well as many other hosts. The virus is also found in broadleaf weeds.

Stem Cuttings:
Stem cuttings fall into one of three different categories: softwood, semi-hardwood, and hardwood. Softwood cuttings are taken from the current season's new growth, while the stems are still soft yet not too tender.
Stem Tubers usually grow underground but have buds or "eyes" from which spring new stems, such as in Solanum tuberosum (Irish potato) or Caladium bicolor (caladium), see Caladium hortulanum .
Corms are solid masses of stem tissue.

Take stem cuttings of plants that do not divide easily. Penstemons and osteospermums are among the border plants most commonly propagated in this way.
Crown, Stem, and Root Rot
These are fungal diseases caused by humid warm conditions, wet leaves, soggy soil, and poor air circulation.
Stem cuttings can taken in spring when plants are growing rapidly. Cut stems with at least five leaves on an angle above an outward facing leaf. Remove the two bottom leaves and let the stem dry for about 4 hours.

Cut flowers. Cut flowers in your garden in the morning before the dew has dried, or in the early evening.
Stem canker shows up as spreading brown patches on otherwise green stems. Another fungus, it enters the plant through pruning scars or insect wounds. Prune away the diseased portions of canes and destroy them.

From what most gardeners have said to me is that Pinks are wonderful plants to for stem cutting. Some recommend that the cuttings are taken after the blooming season. But I am unsure about this with Pinks.

The parts we call leaflets on other plants are identified as pinna.
The stem ends of the asparagus are fibrous and not so tasty. The hard core may juice them but I just compost mine. Hold the stalk in your fingers, one hand on the stalk end, the other a bit above where the asparagus stalk becomes bendy.

Layering a stem down and pegging it to the soil produces adventitious roots.
