Making a Clean Cut through the Plant Stem Node
Marie Iannotti
Place the cutting on a flat, hard surface and make a clean slice through the middle of the node with a sterilized razor blade. Plant stems send our their new roots from the stem nodes.

Also Known As: plant nodes, leaf nodes, stem nodes
Examples:
When pruning roses, it is best to prune back to nodes that are facing outward to promote a nice, open shape to the plant.

Node The point where a leaf or other structure meets a stem node; the part of a stem from which a leaf or new branch starts to grow.
Nodule Round bacteria-filled swellings on the roots of legume plants.

At least one stem node must be buried, but it is better if there are 2-3 nodes covered. (The nodes are where the new roots will emerge from.)
Water the rooting medium well.
