Stepping stones are unique because they serve the dual purpose of providing a walkway in your yard or garden as well as a new design element.

Stepping stones placed throughout the garden definitely serve a purpose by allowing the freedom to move about and tend to plants without getting our shoes muddy. They can also help to deter weeds from growing.

When setting stepping stones they should be between one and three inches above the soil, yet solid underfoot, as if rooted into the ground.

Stepping stones or bricks should be placed on two to four inches of course sand. First level the sand by using a 2x4 cut to the width of the path. Drag the wood over the sand until level. A carpenter's level is handy at this stage.
