Stinkbug

Gardening StigmaStipe

The most common stinkbug is the green stinkbug. It is shield-shaped. When disturbed, it produces a stench foul enough to convince predators and people to leave it alone.

Other insects such as aphids, spider mites, Japanese beetles, stinkbugs, leafhoppers, lima bean pod borers and leaf miners may be problems for some gardeners in different parts of the country.

Insect problems include stinkbugs, which cause small bitter black spots on the meat of the pecan, and pecan casebearer which causes small worms in the nut. Other insects and diseases occur in some years.

Pest Watch
Edamame are largely pest-resistant, but if you have problems with Bean Beetles or Stinkbugs they can be controlled with floating row covers or predatory insects (parasitic wasps, nematodes, ladybugs, and lacewings).

Tachinid Flies
These flies eat Caterpillars, Armyworms, Cornborers, Cutworms and Stinkbugs.
Tiger Beetles
These beetles eat various soil-dwelling larvae.

This kills most soft-bodied insects, such as aphids, mealy bugs, spider mites, stinkbugs, crickets and grasshoppers. Most of the insects will be dead within an hour. Some plants can be damaged by repeated soap sprays though.
