Stoloniferous grasses such as bermuda, and St. Augustine will readily fill in bare spots if a few plugs or sprigs of healthy grass are planted in these areas. Re-seeding is an option with common bermudagrass and tall fescue.

Oakleaf hydrangea is also stoloniferous, though hardly to the point where it could be considered invasive.

Like the phlox, the foam flower is stoloniferous and forms a consistent expanse of leaves. The milder the winter, the more evergreen it remains.
