Above we discussed surface preparation before recoating a substrate. After proper surface preparation has been done, one may chose to apply a special coating before applying the finishing coats.

First, you'll want to cut your plywood substrate to the measurements of your counter. If you want there to be room for stools to go under your bar, you should take that into account when sizing your counter-top.

However, as many crops do not like to grow without some substrate to keep their roots supported providing good oxygenation, most hydroponic cultures use some form of medium.

Mushroom compost is generally sold in bags labeled as SMC or SMS (spent mushroom compost or spent mushroom substrate). It is available at many garden centers or through landscape supply companies.

Another problem, of concern to apple growers in the 1 930s and 1940s, and again in the Hudson and Champlain valleys in the early 1 980s, is that the honeydew secreted by the crawlers is a substrate for sooty molds growing on the fruit surface.

Kits are available for a limited variety of mushrooms, sold individually because each type needs a specially formulated growing medium, called a substrate. But no matter which species you order, indoor growing requirements are basically the same.

Soak the coco-fiber in warm water for about 10 minutes. Mix in a packet of unflavored gelatin dissolved in water for every six quarts of substrate. This will help it to stick together.

I bought a shitake mushroom patch from a company called Fungi Perfecti. The Website said that the patch was made from a sterilized medium (substrate) in which the mushroom mycelium was growing.
