"Plant diseases develop when three conditions align: There must be a susceptible host plant, a pathogen must be present, and the environment must be conducive. This is called the disease triangle," explains Andreas Westphal, Ph.D.
The obvious defense against the disease is to avoid planting the two susceptible hosts near each other. However, in neighborhoods where every house seemingly has one or the other, it is kind of beyond your control.
