Gardening TankageTannin

contain water soluble extractives (tannic acid) that can be leached to the surface of the wood. The action of the sun can draw moisture (water vapor) from inside the wood through to the surface.

Chestnuts must be boiled or roasted before eating due to their high levels of tannic acid. When picking chestnuts, look for ones that are fresh, smooth, shiny and feel heavy for their size.

.... I've heard the leaves shed tannic acid into the soil and it's difficult to get anything to grow around the trees. DOes anybody have any info they could share about. More
